Feeling the Cold

Man, it’s cold today.

I’m well wrapped up, wearing three layers, a wooly hat, and I’m in my lounge with the elements locked outside, but still it’s painfully cold. My hands are freezing – so much so that I’ve had to delete and re-type three or four times already this paragraph due to typo’s.

With Fliss and Elisha away down to visit Sue, I thought I could brave it out without putting the heating on outside of the pre-scheduled hours, in a bit of a money saving exersize. It doesn’t feel like it’s worth the effort, though. I’ve had a cold brewing all week that I’ve managed to keep at bay. Today, however, it’s starting to take hold and I’m having to blow my nose every ten minutes or so. Not good.

Maybe I should switch to a long sleaved tee shirt to give my arms an extra layer. That would help my hands stay warm, right?

Actually, screw it – I’m doing that and putting the heating on. 🙁

It seems a shame to ditch the gallery format I had going before I switched to WordPress, especially as I’d just gotten it working a whole lot better. However, I figured it would be best to switch now while I’m on a roll than to make the decision further down the line when I have a bunch more pictures.

So, with that in mind, I set up a Flickr account a few weeks back and I’ve begun the process of uploading my old gallery images into picture sets there. So far I only have three sets uploaded – at six pictures a time it’s going to take a little while until I’ve ported all the images from my old gallery.

There are more benefits to the Flickr approach than just organising and tagging my pictures. In a couple of months, I intend to upgrade my mobile phone to one of the new Nokia camera phones that let you transfer pictures straight to your Flickr account. Once there, I can tag them so that they end up being included on this site via the feed from Flickr. That’s the idea, anyhow – I’m still a good couple of months away from upgrading my phone.

Update: Fliss pointed out that they had an uploader tool that lets you upload a folder of files at the same time. Duh! I should have known.

Equipped with that I uploaded all my gallery images this morning, although I had to upgrade to a Pro account so that I could have more than four sets of photos. With the current strength of the pound against the dollar, $25 didn’t seem too steep for a quality picture hosting service.

Charlie Brooker on Macs

The new Mac propaganda featuring the over-rated Mitchell & Webb (as over rated as Little Britain, at any rate), seem to have hit a raw nerve with Charlie Brooker.

It’s standard Apple faire, the advertising; touting the PC as dull and boring, while the Mac is fun and creative. Aside from the fact you can run similar applications on each, and you can actually upgrade a PC without it costing a fortune, or being locked to a sole manufacturer who can turn around and tell you they don’t support that model any longer.

Mac users seem to think that advocating PC’s is giving unconditional love to MicroSoft, which is far from the case. But then, they also seem to think that PC’s crash all the time and you cant do anything creative on them. I guess it takes a certain type of mind to buy into the Apple propaganda so completely. By that logic I can imagine that Apple will persist with the misinformation until they’ve assimilated everyone susceptible to that form of marketing.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again; If you have focus on the faults of another product to market your own product then I’m going to assume that yours doesn’t have much going for it.
