WipeoutZone version 2

www.wipeoutzone.com version 2Towards the end of 2001 it became obvious to me that the old WipeoutZone site required a much needed overhaul. There were nasty nested tables everywhere and the site was an absolute chore to update. The Flash navigation made me squirm every time I looked at it and the whole DR rip-off that I’d come up with before was less pleasing to the eye with every visit.

So, after making the decision to go standards compliant with the design I done away with all the tables, except for those which hold tabular data. The layout is handled by the style sheet and the code is as clean as anything I’ve ever done.

Yet again, Fireworks fell short of the mark when it came to doing the banner and Adobe Photoshop came to the rescue. Maybe with version 5, eh Macromedia?

Anyhow, the templates took about a week or so to come up with, plus four hard days of coding to convert the old pages over. I’m quite pleased with the result – it’s very fast and works well in all the leading browsers.

Good for what Ale’s you

I enjoyed a great tour of Young’s Ram Brewery down in Wandsworth this week. Guided through every step of the brewing process by the master brewer, Mr Ken Don, the tour ended with a fabulous tasting session! If you find yourself in a Young’s pub in the near future, I suggest you seek out the Double Chocolate ale and their Winter Warmer – both are perfect pints at this time of year.

Young’s also have a rather nifty website, too; www.youngs.co.uk.

Happy consumerfest!

Lots and lots of stuff has happened recently. It turned out that I wasn’t really redundant for all that long at all, although the job that fell into my lap was perfect it does mean a load of upheaval in my life.

Still, after two years in London and four changes of address, having lived North, South, East, and West, I think I’ve covered the whole shooting match! It will be an interesting change for me and a great reminder that by thinking positive you can land on your feet.

The new job starts on January the 7th, which is a great way to start a new year, however, I don’t think I’ve quite had enough of London yet. I will probably be travelling back for long weekends over the course of next summer to visit all the friends I have made down here.

Anyway, on with the show – happy new year to everyone and anyone who happens upon this site. Hope you have a good one, and I wish you all a prosperous and safe 2002.
