A new look at last

I sort of arrived at a new design the other night. It’s not really what I was going for, but it works for me and it’s kind of growing on me. It’s a strange thing that something quite decent can be arrived at by accident. In this case – I was messing around with pastely, slatey shades of blue to use as a contrast colour in box-outs in something I’m doing at work.

One of the contrast colours I found felt really pleasing to the eye… well, to my eye anyway, so I decided to give it a try with my own site. So here we are!

I’ve decided to drop the style sheet selector for the moment being… two reasons: One – I haven’t re-jigged them yet to work with the new page template. Two – absolutely everyone has them and it’s just a flippin’ gimmick anway.

So – back to the new look, well, I had the mouse-miles reduction that I was on about a while back in mind when I done the layout for this. Having the navigation on the right, near the scroll bar should reduce those arduous mouse miles. Feels kind of nice, practicing what I was preaching for a change! ;o)

Oh – also, and get this – I kept the old index as winter2002index.php, so that I could have an archive of the old design. Wahey!

One last entry before civilisation collapses!

I wanted to get one last update in before May. Not for any particular reason – it’s just that April has been a kind of bumper month for updates and I think it deserves a good send off. Sadly I’m out of ideas on what to write about, so I think I’ll just go with a brief summary of where things are at.

Even after the realisation that this site sucks a bit at the moment, I still haven’t got round to allocating some time to spruce it up a bit. Even when I do turn on the computer with a view to doing something, I usually end up messing around with the banner at WipeoutZone, which is driving me nuts due to its lameness. Hopefully I’ll get round to doing something soon – maybe tonight.

Work is going well – the intranet is almost at a launchable stage and I was able to do some of the Very Cool StuffTM that I wanted to get done. It’s only the first milestone, really – there are loads of things that I can add in to make it better, as well as refining the code in places. All in, a good project so far – quite pleased with the way it has gone.

Fliss is still working in the pensions department in the company she’s temping with. Hopefully a good job offer will fall into her lap in the near future, as it sucks a bit that I’ve kind of landed on my feet here in Liverpool and she hasn’t managed to find something decent yet.

Maybe we should be trying a bit harder to win the Lotto. I know that money doesn’t solve every problem, but we don’t seem to have any other problems than lack of money!

Two hours of torture

Five-a-side was absolute murder last night – we played two hours because nobody came to turf us off after our pre-booked hour was up. In some ways it was a really good thing, as it took me almost an hour and forty minutes to score. In other ways… as in, the difficulty I have walking today, it was a bad thing.

I’m hoping that the fitness gains will outweigh the short term discomfort brought on by two hours of chasing a ball around, occasionally punctuated by falling on my ass and scuffing a further layer of skin from my knees.
